VMware acquisition of Bitnami

A lot of you may have recently hear about the VMware acquisition of Bitnami, I was both surprised and excited. I’ve been using Bitnami for the last 8 or 9 years across multiple companies (and personally) and I’m excited to see them acquired by VMware, this could be a great step for them, to expand their portfolio of apps and to expand their collaboration with new ISV’s and providers.

I first used Bitnami back in either late 2010 or early 2011 when I needed to put quickly put together some systems for some of my technical staff to use. I quickly found that building the systems from scratch, was tedious, complex and prone to unexpected issues. During this process I found the Bitnami site, with pre-rolled and validated systems that were exactly what I needed. I very quickly justified the costs and downloaded a number of VMware packages with everything I needed. I never looked back. Even as recently as a couple of months ago, I jumped on and downloaded a pre-built WordPress server for some testing.

It’s a fantastic service that has been hugely beneficial and a massive time saver over the years, they have also added, improved and expanded on their automatic deployment to multiple clouds capability among other things.

I can’t wait to see what VMware does with them and how this expands their
